Voter ID
From May 2023, all voters at a polling station will need to show an accepted form of photographic identification (photo ID) in order to be able to cast their vote. This has been introduced under the Elections Act 2022.
Anyone who does not have an accepted form of ID can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate to use at the polling station.
The types of photo ID which will be accepted at polling stations are:
* UK passport
* Passport for a Commonwealth country or a European Economic Area (EEA) state
* Photocard driving licence (includes a provisional licence)
* Photocard driving licence from Channel Islands, Isle of Man or EEA state
* Proof of Age (PASS) card
* Concessionary Travel pass/card (in Lincolnshire, this is the Older person or Disability bus pass issued by Lincolnshire County Council)
* Ministry of Defence Form 90 (MOD90)
* Blue Badge scheme photocard parking permit
* Electoral Identity Card for Northern Ireland
* EEA state national identity card which bears a photograph of the voter
* Biometric immigration document issued in the United Kingdom
* an Older Person’s Bus Pass
* a Disabled Person’s Bus Pass
* an Oyster 60+ Card
* a Freedom Pass
* a Scottish National Entitlement Card issued in Scotland
* a 60 and Over Welsh Concessionary Travel Card issued in Wales
* a Disabled Person’s Welsh Concessionary Travel Card issued in Wales
* a Senior SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
* a Registered Blind SmartPass or Blind Person’s SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
* a War Disablement SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
* a 60+ SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
* a Half Fare SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
* an Electoral Identity Card issued in Northern Ireland
* Voter Authority Certificate (for those without other photo ID) - applications will be able to be made online to GOV.UK or by a paper form. The application process for this type of Certificate will open around mid-January 2023.
* Anonymous Elector Document - the application process for this type of Certificate will open around mid-January 2023
